Chaunie Saelens Brusie became a student mother her senior year of college. "Chaunie’s Journey" was filmed during Chaunie's pregnancy.
"I was devastated. The pregnancy was an overwhelming shock to me, and the first place I turned to for help, my university, had failed to support me," Chaunie recalls. "I understand the fear, the uncertainty, and the sheer panic that can lead a woman to choose abortion," she says, but adds: "I will not stop believing that my dreams of being a successful student, mother and professional can all work together."
Chaunie, the founder and leader of a campus activist group that works to create support for pregnant and parenting students like herself, promotes pro-woman solutions especially on college campuses. "It is now up to all of us to help create happy beginnings for other students facing unplanned pregnancies."
Chaunie graduated on time with a degree in Nursing shortly before delivering her daughter, Ada Marie, in May of 2008.
